Mentmii Attends "Our Anxious Generation" Event: Insights on Youth Anxiety and Cross-Age Mentorship

Recently, we had the chance to attend a fascinating event called "Our Anxious Generation" hosted by the Sustainable Media Center (SMC). This event brought together some incredible minds—Jonathan Haidt, Emma Lembke, and Scott Galloway—for a deep dive into the challenges our youth are facing today. With anxiety levels on the rise, the insights from this discussion are especially relevant to our mission at Mentmii, where we connect high school students with grade schoolers for in-person coaching in sports, STEM, arts, and music.

Key Takeaways: Understanding Youth Anxiety

The event, hosted by SMC’s Steven Rosenbaum and Mintz’s Dan DeWolf, was packed with eye-opening discussions. Jonathan Haidt, a well-known social psychologist, talked about how social media and societal pressures are impacting mental health. This hit home for us at Mentmii, as we’re all about reducing screen time and encouraging meaningful, offline interactions through mentorship.

Emma Lembke, a young advocate for digital wellness, shared her thoughts on finding balance between online and offline activities. Her work with the Log Off Movement perfectly aligns with what we do at Mentmii—promoting real-world skills and relationships through face-to-face mentorship. Emma’s message about healthier online environments is something we deeply resonate with.

Scott Galloway, a business professor and public speaker, brought up the economic and societal pressures that today’s young people are dealing with. His insights into these stressors underscore the importance of what we’re doing at Mentmii. By connecting grade schoolers with high school mentors, we aim to provide the stability and guidance they need to thrive.

Supporting Youth Through Mentorship

The Sustainable Media Center, led by Steven Rosenbaum, did a fantastic job facilitating this important dialogue. Their commitment to addressing societal issues through media and conversation fits right in with our goals at Mentmii—to build supportive, local mentorship networks that make a difference.
